The People Living with HIV (PLWHIV) Forum is the only national annual event designed for PLWHIV to participate in creating their vision for the future.
The Forum, open to all PLWHIV, is an excellent opportunity to:
- network with other people living with HIV from across Canada;
- set priorities for the community-based AIDS movement; and,
- participate in the general business of the Canadian AIDS Society.
Delegates of the Forum elect their regional PLWHIV Directors to the Board of the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS). In addition, resolutions arising from the Forum go directly to the Board of Directors to help guide the ongoing work of CAS. All delegates of the Forum have full voting rights and are encouraged to run for any vacant PLWHIV position on the CAS Board of Directors.
While both the CAS PLWHIV Forum and Annual Meeting have in the past traditionally been hosted in Ottawa, we instituted a new practice of hosting our annual conferences in various cities across Canada. This year we are pleased to hold the PLWHIV Forum in Regina, SK, from June 6th to 9th, 2017.
There are several advantages to hosting our conferences in various locations across Canada – and we intend to increase the total number of CAS scholarships to offer financial assistance to PLWHIV, with or without ASO affiliation, and member organization representatives as a way to encourage attendance to these important meetings.
If you are seropositive for HIV and care about the future of PLWHIV, the Forum is an excellent opportunity to share information, discuss new ideas, contribute to policy development and renew acquaintances.
