Publication in the Journal of the Ontario Occupational Health Nurses Association

The Canadian AIDS Society is happy to share our recent publication in the Journal of the Ontario Occupational Health Nurses Association. This article describes our upcoming clinical practice guidelines for the use of cannabis in managing chronic pain.

Despite a long history of cannabis use for chronic pain management and the legalization of cannabis for recreational purposes in 2018, there remains a large gap in our current understanding. Physicians have been left with little support regarding prescription knowledge, and many patients struggle to receive the care they need. Our research will support chronic pain patients by providing clear guidance for the use of cannabinoid-based medicines in treating chronic pain and co-occurring conditions such as sleep issues, anxiety and appetite suppression.

We gratefully acknowledge our continued partnership with Canopy Growth and its medical division Spectrum Therapeutics to fund this project and applaud their vision. We would also like to thank the Canadian Institute of Health Research and the Arthritis Society for their support.

Thank you to Dr. Cecilia Costiniuk and Shari Margolese for their work.
