It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on May 31, 2005, of our dear friend and long time supporter, Dwayne Norris.
Dwayne was a 55-year-old Aboriginal (Metis) HIV positive man who was diagnosed approximately 4 years ago. He sat on the HIV Edmonton Board of Directors for 3½ years and had been extremely active in a number of committees both on the board and nationally. Dwayne volunteered for both HIV Edmonton and Living Positive, was a member of the Speaker’s Bureau, Positive Links and was actively involved with the Ross Armstrong Fund. Dwayne was a member of the boards of Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE), Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network (CAAN) and National Aboriginal Council on HIV/AIDS. Dwayne worked tirelessly and lovingly toward easing the pain and isolation experienced in the lives of HIV positive people and in particular, those from the Aboriginal community.
Dwayne was loved by many and returned that love selflessly. He will be greatly missed.
