OTTAWA, ONTARIO–(Marketwired – Dec. 1, 2015) – Nearly 5,000 registered walkers and volunteers participated in 31 separate walks across the country from September 12 to September 20 to show support for the estimated 74,000 Canadians living with HIV/AIDS.
This year, total pledges from sponsors and donors raised over $700,000 that will be used to provide enhanced services, education and resources to prevent new HIV infections.
To date, more than half a million Canadians have participated in the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life from coast to coast. Together, these Canadians have raised over $42 million to support programs and services for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in their communities.
“It’s very encouraging for us to see so many dedicated Canadians come out for the Walk to show their support for People Living with HIV/AIDS,” said Gary Lacasse, Executive Director of the Canadian AIDS Society. “Their efforts help increase awareness about HIV/AIDS, reduce the stigma and discrimination that is still widespread, and provide funds for essential services in each of their local communities for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.”
Each year, the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life is made possible with the support of its committed volunteers, countless donors and national corporate sponsors.
“We are so proud of the fundraising efforts that went into this year’s Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life,” said Marianne Hasold-Schilter, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, International Banking at Scotiabank. “Supporting HIV/AIDS research, awareness and prevention is part of our commitment to building healthier and stronger communities where we live and work.”
