Dr. Dick Smith, ?-2023

We are deeply saddened about the passing of Dr. Dick Smith, a founding pillar of the Nine Circles Community Health Centre.

We will continue to honour the legacy he has left and his understanding of the importance of meeting people exactly where they are at. Dick has been a champion, advocate and frontline leader in the response to HIV, community health and healthy equity for gay men and the broader 2SLGBTTQIA* community.

Dick was an active member in the founding of Nine Circles Community Health Centre, and our predecessor, Village Clinic. Dick has always understood the importance of using his privilege to open doors for communities who face structural disadvantages. As a healthcare provider, mentor and teacher, Dick has led the way on offering safe, non-judgemental, harm reduction centred care.

We will continue the work you were passionate about throughout your life and will continue to stand with those who need us most. Thank you Dr. Dick Smith for everything and you will be terribly missed.

Nous continuerons d’honorer l’héritage qu’il a laissé et sa compréhension de l’importance de rencontrer les gens exactement là où ils en sont. Dick a été un champion, un défenseur et un leader de première ligne dans la lutte contre le VIH, la santé communautaire et l’équité en matière de santé pour les hommes gais et la communauté 2ELGBTQI+ au sens large.

Dick a été un membre actif dans la fondation du Nine Circles Community Health Centre, ainsi que de notre prédécesseur, la Village Clinic. Dick a toujours compris l’importance d’utiliser son privilège pour ouvrir des portes aux communautés confrontées à des désavantages structurels. En tant que prestataire de soins de santé, mentor et enseignant, Dick a montré la voie en offrant des soins sécuritaires, sans jugement et axés sur la réduction des méfaits.

Nous poursuivrons le travail qui vous passionnait tout au long de votre vie et continuerons de soutenir ceux qui ont le plus besoin de nous. Merci Dr. Dick Smith pour tout, vous nous manquerez énormément.
