Marco Gomes
Born in Portugal and currently living in Toronto, Marco Gomez is a 27 year-old who has been HIV-positive for 4.5 years. He is currently working as the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS’ (GYCA) Regional Focal Point – North America and is a committed advocate for youth living with HIV/AIDS (YLWHIV/AIDS). In addition, Marco is an advisory committee member of Positive Youth Outreach (PYO), principle advisor committee member to the youth-oriented web site www.livepositive.ca and youth steering committee member for the Ontario vaccine/prevention technology trials network. He also occupies the first youth seat at the Canadian Treatment Action Council and the Special Youth Seat for the province of Ontario.
At AIDS 2006, Marco was a speaker, abstract presenter and documentary participant, following five adults and one youth through the conference.
His international experience includes participation in a WHO/UNICEF consultation for youth living with HIV/AIDS, spearheading Living Positively, an international community for youth living with HIV/AIDS, www.youthaidscoalition.org/living.html , a project of GYCA and serving as steering committee member for International Planned Parenthood Federation.
