End of Life Care

Background

The Quality End-of-Life Care Coalition, of which CAS is a member, believes that all Canadians have the right to quality end-of-life care that allows them to die with dignity, free of pain, surrounded by their loved ones, in a setting of their choice. The Coalition believes that to achieve quality end-of-life care for all Canadians, there must be a well-funded, sustainable national strategy for hospice palliative and end-of-life care.

Questions to Ask Local Candidates:
  1. How will your party work to create a long-term, adequately funded, sustainable National Strategy for Palliative and End-of-Life Care that would address the issues of services, resources, education, research, and support for patients and families?
  2. The current funding to the National Strategy, the Secretariat on Palliative and End-of-Life Care, Health Care Policy Directorate, at a level of $1.4 million dollars, has been severely reduced due to departmental budget cutbacks. What are your party’s plans for a reinstatement of sustainable funding to this Secretariat?
