Vaccines save millions of lives each year and prevent many more people from getting sick. One of the most powerful and cost-effective health interventions available today, it is hoped that a vaccine may one day be developed to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Currently both preventive and therapeutic vaccines are under development. Preventive vaccines would prevent the transmission of HIV, while therapeutic vaccines would help treat those individuals already infected.
CAS works closely with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) in disseminating information about vaccine research and in educating its members about Canadian vaccine trials and advances.
