Heterosexual exposure remains an issue for the transmission of HIV around the world. In Canada we are beginning to see more new infections in varied communities, including among heterosexuals. Heterosexual exposure is of particular risk when one or more of the partners are among the communities considered at risk for HIV in Canada: people who use injection drugs, men who have sex with men, recipients of blood products, and people from countries where AIDS is endemic.
