bloodbagSince blood transfer is also a means of HIV transmission, another risk factor is the use of blood products, artificial insemination and organ transplants.

While all blood, organs and semen in Canada are currently screened for HIV, donations made during the four to six week window period prior to the donor developing HIV antibodies, may pose a risk of HIV transmission, however negligible.

CAS was involved in the historical Krever inquiry into the safety of blood products and currently assists in ensuring a safe blood supply that is accessible to all.
